ARCHER - Gerald Crosby Archer passed away January 29, 2004 in the Olds
Hospital at the age of 74 after a long courageous battle with Progressive

couple to be married in the current Mountain View Missionary Church. They
worked hard together to build a successful mixed dairy and grain farming
operation while at the same time raising their six children.

leisure time with family and friends, reading, playing horseshoes and later
in his life traveling to Europe, Australia, New Zealand and eastern Canada.
Gerald will be forever remembered for his strength, his wonderful sense of
humor, and his calm and quiet good nature, as Gerald was not a person to
complain when the going got tough.

LUELLAU - Ludwig
Ludwig Luellau was surrounded by family members as he went home to be with
his Lord on Sunday, February 1, 2004.
His last days were spent in the loving care of his family and the Olds
Hospital medical staff. Ludwig was the fifth and youngest child born to
Ludwig and Anna Luellau in Scharmbeck, Germany on February 7, 1918. He was
raised in a Christian home by his strict, yet loving parents. He learned to
work hard and to enjoy doing it.
When he was just 14 years old, Ludwig was put in charge of the family farm.
During his youth his family regularly attended a church that was 10 km from
their farm requiring either a horse and buggy or bicycle ride.
An event that forever changed Ludwig's life was an accident and the
subsequent death of his sister, Hilda. For the eight days between the
accident and her death, Ludwig spent as much time as he could with his
sister. She told him that he needed to be ready at all times to meet the
Lord Jesus. It took another six months before Ludwig gave his life over to
Jesus and became a Christian. For the rest of his life Ludwig would serve
his Lord in many different ways.
Ludwig was married on march 26, 1938 to Elfriede Geis. He was drafted into
the German Wehrmacht and served from 1939 to 1945. At the end of World War
II Ludwig was captured and held as a German prisoner of war in a Russian
concentration camp from May until December of 1945. Upon his return to
Germany he served as a farm manager for several years. In 1951, Ludwig and
Elfriede along with their four young children immigrated to Canada. They
first settled in Manitoba where Ludwig worked at various jobs on farms and
in the bush until they moved to Kelowna, B.C. in 1954. The Okanagan Valley
was home for over 20 years while Ludwig once again made his living from the
land as a dairy farmer and orchardist. For a time he worked as a sawmiller,
he also learned and plied the new trades of carpentry and building
contractor. In 1975, the family moved to Olds, Alberta where Ludwig began
another new career as a chicken farmer. Ludwig also continued to build
houses and other buildings in and around the Olds area until he was almost
80 years old. He particularly enjoyed helping to build the East Olds Baptist
Church building and manse.
Ludwig loved to work hard and enjoyed serving and helping others. He held
many different leadership positions in the churches he attended over the
years. He was an energetic Sunday school superintendent, a caring deacon and
a tireless prayer warrior. He had an incredible love for the Bible and
became involved with the Gideon organization in 1977. His passion was to get
the Word of God into people's hands. In particular, Ludwig enjoyed
presenting Scriptures to Grade 5 students all over Mountain View County. He
also had a zeal for giving Bibles to people he came into contact with in his
everyday routine and while on holidays, often packing suitcases full of
Bibles and setting a goal of giving each one away before he returned home.
He enjoyed picking up hitch-hikers and giving them a New Testament when he
dropped them off.
Laughter came quickly, flowed freely and was quite contagious. His trademark
was his hearty handshake, he loved to connect with people and the strength
of his grip revealed the strength of conviction and character with which he
lived his life. Though he faced many trials and hardships over the course of
his life, Ludwig did not turn from his commitment to his Lord and God. Even
through his battle against Parkinson's disease, he maintained both his
convictions and his strong grip until his last day.
He was the last surviving member of his family, being predeceased by his
parents Ludwig and Anna Luellau and his four older siblings, one daughter -
Edith and one grandson - Philip.
Ludwig is lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 66 years, Elfriede and
his six children. Frank (Esther) Luellau of Elmira, Ontario; Rose (Erwin)
Giebler of Kelowna, B.C.; Frieda (Les) Engel of Medicine Hat, Alberta; Meta
Klimek of Olds, Alberta; Esther (Gordon) Andres of Olds and Ben (Donna)
Luellau of Olds. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 35
great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, February 6, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. from the
East Olds Baptist Church. Interment followed in the East Olds Baptist Church
Cemetery. If friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Gideons.
As a tribute to Ludwig Luellau, a tree will be planted in the Heartland Tree
Memorial Park (Olds). Heartland Funeral Services Ltd. (Olds) entrusted with

ROCKWELL - Hazel Bernice, 1938 - 2004
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hazel Rockwell on
Friday, February 13, 2004. Hazel's last days were spent in the loving care
of her devoted family and the Olds Hospital staff. Hazel fought a courageous
battle with cancer. She was positive and hopeful until the very end. Hazel
was so grateful for all the loving support she received at home during her
time in the hospital.
Hazel was born June 1, 1938, the third child of John and Hazel Wilson in
Rocky Mountain House, AB. She was born and grew up in a small log home with
her four siblings on her parents homestead. There wasn't much room but there
was a lot of love in that home. All the Wilson children learned to milk,
feed chickens, and help out in any way on the farm. Hazel spent eight years
attending the Hardondale one-room school. She took her high school courses
by correspondence. After finishing her schooling Hazel lived in Red Deer and
worked for a doctor for a short time. She moved back to Rocky and worked in
the hospital. Later she began her life-long waitressing career in the Top
Hotel Restaurant in Rocky. Here Hazel met the love of her life, Jim, who was
working on a rig in the area. Jim and Hazel married on January 26, 1957.
They spent the next nine years living in various places (Hart Highway,
Didsbury, Sundre, Drayton Valley, Olds and Cochrane) while Jim worked the
rigs. During these years Jim and Hazel had their two children Cindy and
Clayton. In 1966, they again moved to Olds deciding to stay and make Olds
their home. During these years Hazel continued her career in waitressing
working in a variety of restaurants (the Lamp Post, Olds Hotel, Public
Lunch, Route 27, ABC, Smitty's and the curling arena). Hazel ended her
waitressing career when she retired from A & W in 2001.
Hazel made many life-long friends during her waitressing years. Many people
say she was THE best waitress.
Hazel's greatest joys were times spent with her family, both immediate and
extended. Small family gatherings or large family reunions, Hazel enjoyed
them all. She was so very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great
grandchildren and was always there for them. Coffeeing and going out with
friends was important to Hazel too. She always had time for her family and
friends.
Anyone who knew Hazel will remember her gift of laughter. She had an amazing
ability to laugh spontaneously and easily.
Hazel enjoyed filling up her flower beds with a glorious mass of petunias
every spring and all who drove by their home enjoyed them too. Hazel and Jim
often went on trips both large and small in their motor home. These breaks
away made Hazel appreciate home and family life all the more.
Hazel was predeceased by her brother Jimmy, her parents, her sister Mary and
her special niece Jackie.
Hazel will be lovingly remembered and deeply mourned by her husband, of
forty-seven years, Jim, her daughter Cindy (Wayne) Bieber, her son Clayton
(Deb), her grandchildren Charmaine (Ben) Schweitzer, Tyler, Courtney, Tanis
and Shannon, her great grandchildren Ocean, Jacob and Dravyn and her sisters
Barb (Roland) Larson and Shirley (Ken) Hankinson. Hazel will be dearly
missed by her nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews and her aunties
Laura Bryenton and Wilma Glasier. Hazel's many friends mourn her passing
too. There is a deep void in many lives now that Hazel has left us.
Hazel would want us to remember all the good times shared with her. She
leaves with us these thoughts: take time for your friends and family -
there's really nothing else important in life. Enjoy each and every day God
gives you.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at 2:00 p.m.
at the First Baptist Church, Olds with Reverend Fiona Wilkinson (St.
Andrew's Presbyterian) officiating.
In Hazel's memory, donations may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer
Foundation Suite 430, 1324 - 17 Ave., SW, Calgary, Alberta T2T 5S8.
As a tribute to Hazel Rockwell, a tree will be planted in the Heartland Tree
Memorial Park (Olds).
