ERICKSON - Wayne Barry Erickson passed away in Edmonton, Alberta, on January
28, 2005.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 23 years, Terry; sons,
Christopher and Cameron and daughter, Lisa, of Rocky Mountain House; mother
and father, Clarence and Margaret Erickson of Olds; and brothers, Wesley
(Sheila) and family of Olds and Russell (Dixie) and family of Trochu. He is
also survived by his sisters-in-law, Carol Lambert of Red Deer, Dianne and
Earl Wilkes of Olds, Joanne and Jim Kilpatrick of Olds/Caroline, Gayle
Coughlin of Sundre, Shirley and Cody Bennett of Whitecourt and Brenda and
Jarrett Gruneau of Sundre; one brother-in-law, Robert Nickel and Fay
McLaughlin of Whitecourt, and families; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and
friends.
Wayne was born April 20, 1958 in Edmonton to Clarence and Margaret Erickson.
In 1964 they moved to an acreage near Olds and Wayne started school. Wayne
was always an organized person; even as a youngster he wouldn‚t go to bed
until things were organized for morning. He helped out on the farm, and was
involved in baseball and basketball. Wayne was lucky enough to have
completed his 12 years of school at the same place. Wayne graduated in 1976
and Terry was his escort.
Wayne went to work for Dome Petroleum in Estevan, Sask. as a field operator,
then transferred to Fort Saskatchewan and worked as the youngest plant
operator. It was at this point that he proposed to Terry. Once again Wayne
took a transfer to Rocky Mountain House and continued to work for Amoco,
proving meters on the co-ed lines. Up until the time of his passing he
worked for BP (British Petroleum), working his way up to team leader.
Wayne's job offered him many experiences and opportunities to travel. He
valued his job and took pride in his work with 29 years of service in his
oilfield career.
Terry and Wayne were married June 6, 1981. They started a family with Chris,
1984, Lisa, 1985, and Cameron, 1988. With three little ones under his big
wing, Wayne started his role as a genuine supporter, coach, mentor and
chauffeur in all his children's various and multiple interests and
activities, some of his most enjoyable being Cub Scouts, band, hockey,
baseball and basketball. Wayne took the time to keep in touch with friends
and family while enjoying camping, dancing, vacationing and travelling.
Wayne's recreation time included golfing, with the highlight being a
hole-in-one; curling, scoring an eight-ender; skiing and gardening. He also
enjoyed the competition of a good game of backgammon and crib.
Wayne was a loving husband and family man, caring, giving, hardworking and a
man of great integrity. Over the years with his smiles, hugs, infectious
laugh, and wonderful sense of humour, Wayne touched a lot of people. Wayne
always took the time to share a few words with anyone he encountered.
Wayne was a special man who we were all proud to know and who enriched our
lives. We love you and will miss you.
Funeral services were held at the Church of the Nazarene on Thursday,
February 3, 2005, with Reverend Richard Lemmon officiating. As an expression
of sympathy, memorial donations in Wayne's memory may be made to the Alberta
Heart and Stroke Foundation.
