March 2003

JACKSON - Zona Jackson, beloved wife of Bert Jackson passed away at her home
in Olds, Alberta, on February 28, 2003 at the age of 76 years. Besides her
loving husband of 50 years, Zona is survived by her children, Cory (Joan)
Jackson of Edmonton; Wes (Annalisa) Jackson of Olds and Darla (Cam) Smigel
of Calgary as well as 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She is
also survived by her brothers Ted Holland, Garth (Elaine) Holland and sister
Ardith (Lavarr) Carlson.
She was predeceased by her parents, David and Hazel Holland, sisters Donna
King, Arva Call and brothers LaVar Holland and Wally Holland.
Zona was born on July 21, 1926 in Cardston, Alberta to pioneers who made the
trek from Utah. She became very ill at age 10 and because of a series of
illnesses was the first person in Southern Alberta to receive penicillin.
Although she was unable to complete her formal education due to these
lengthy illnesses, she excelled at the studies provided by her tutors and
married Samuel Albert (Bert) Jackson on June 4, 1952.
They started their life together in the Cardston area but events in their
life necessitated moves to several communities in Alberta, including
Calgary, Airdrie, Fort McMurray, Kananaskis, Canmore and finally to Olds in
1989.
She worked as the director of the Olds Museum for more than 5 years and
served an 18 month service mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints which ended in June 2001. Throughout all this time and the
many moves, Zona was always in touch with family and always in the service
of others either through her job, her community volunteering or her church.
Despite significant physical illness throughout her life, she showed faith,
determination, wisdom and imagination in reaching her goals. She was a
teacher of youth throughout her life, teaching through example far more than
by her great words. She has left a legacy of family history which will live
forever. Her wisdom and quiet example will be greatly missed by those who
knew her.
A funeral service was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints on Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. Interment followed in the Olds
