BAKER - Meghan Lee was a special gift from God and the light of her mother's
life - Meghan was a star!
We were blessed on March 19, 1993 with her birth and God chose her to become
a special angel on August 8, 2003. In her ten years she touched everyone she
came in contact with.
Meghan loved music, going for walks, shopping and snuggling in any willing
arms - especially mommy's. Cookie Monster and the Irish Rovers would bring a
sparkle to her eye and a smile to her face faster than a heartbeat!
Meghan, Meggie, Muggsie, Maggy Mugs and even Punkie...she responded to them
all. But no matter the pet name for her she changed each person in her life
with her unconditional love, acceptance and contagious giggles.
Meghan had many, many visits to the Alberta Children's Hospital where she
was well known and remembered in the clinics she visited - she never ceased
to amaze the ACH staff when she giggled through her seating clinics and
being cast for leg braces. She endured numerous operations and hospital
stays fighting like a trooper and coming out with a smile.
Meghan attended Horizon School in Olds for seven years where she stole many
a heart and made life long friends for herself and mom. She was known by so
many, and mom always knew when she'd been out and about on school outings as
someone always let her know if Meghan had been shopping downtown.
Meghan loved to laugh and found humor in the most unlikely places...
listening to an unhappy classmate... dishes falling and breaking on the
floor, a lawn mower or vacuum running, even construction equipment would
send her into a fit of giggles. And what a flirt, if you had a male voice
she would flutter those gorgeous lashes and blue eyes like there was no
tomorrow.
In December 2002, Meghan moved into a home with two fellow school friends as
a result of the determination and caring of Veronica Rolfe of the Olds
Association for Community Living and Adele Etsell of Resources for Children
with Disabilities. She soon stole the hearts of her caregivers as she
settled into her new surroundings. Meghan enjoyed many visits from her mom
and her puppy Gizmo and lit up like a Christmas tree when she came home for
weekends.
The following poem sums up best the special child Meghan was:
"A Special Child"
A meeting was held quite far from earth!
It's time again for another birth.
Said the Angels to the Lord above,
This child will need much love.
Her progress may be very slow
Accomplishments may not show.
And she'll require extra care,
From the folks she meets down there.
She may not run, or laugh, or play,
Her thoughts may seem quite far away.
In many ways she won't adapt
And she'll be known as handicapped.
So let's be careful where she is sent,
We want her life to be content.
Please, Lord, find the parent who
Will do the special job for you.
She will not realize right away,
The leading role she has been asked to play.
But with this child sent from above,
Comes stronger faith and richer love.
And soon she'll know the privilege given,
In caring for her gift from Heaven.
Her precious charge, so meek and mild,
Is Heaven's very special child.
