KIRKEBY - Leonard Charles passed away November 28, 2002.
Len had a zest for
life that was unsurpassed. Len worked at various jobs throughout the years
in Drumheller, Edmonton, Olds, and Linden but he became well-known for his
drywall expertise.
He was a huge sports fan, hockey being his favorite. He coached hockey in
Olds in the 1970's where his players affectionately nicknamed him "Rookie".
It was not uncommon to walk into his house and find him watching a game on
T.V. and listening to another on the radio, all at the same time.
He loved to camp and he loved the mountains especially in Autumn. He always
looked forward to family reunions and liked to take on the responsibility of
collecting the firewood for the bonfire. He enjoyed hunting, and when he was
younger if he hadn't had much luck, he liked to tell his children, "I saw
a
moose today but it looked so much like your mother, that I couldn't shoot
it." This always got him in hot water with his wife.
He was a true friend to all that knew him. His greatest joy in life was his
grandchildren. He was never too shy to brag about them to whoever would
listen.
Len's family takes comfort in knowing he has been reunited with his beloved
Hazel, and that they will be together forever.
He was predeceased by his best friend and wife, Hazel, as well as a son
Dwayne, 3 sisters, Mabel, Effie and Lou and 1 brother Eddie.
He is survived by his loving children:
Fred Charley (Marilyn) Edmonton, Alberta; Len Kirkeby Jr. (Alice) Edson,
Alberta; Lynn Kirkeby, Olds, Alberta; Darryll Charley, Edmonton, Alberta;
Debbie Logan (Ed) High River, Alberta; Randy Kirkeby, Olds, Alberta; Sandy
Kirkeby, Trochu, Alberta; Carla Potts (Andy) Olds, Alberta.
He will be missed deeply by his grandchildren: Dean, Brandy, Amy, Stacey,
Leanne, Bradley, Adrienne, Cody, Christina, Amber and Jennifer, as well as
his great-grandchildren: Ashley, Courtney and James. He is also survived by
2 brothers, Jim and Gordie: 2 sisters, Stella and Verna; as well as numerous
nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial tributes may be made to Canadian Diabetes or Heart and Stroke
Foundation. Funeral services were held December 4, 2002 at 2 p.m at Linden
