NEUFELD - Pearl Charlotte. It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Pearl Charlotte Neufeld (nee Stauffer) on May 5, 2002 at the age of 91.

Pearl was born at the home of her parents in Didsbury, on December 17, 1910. She took her schooling in Didsbury and went to work in the Didsbury Hotel where she met and married Jacob John Neufeld on October 16, 1929. She farmed in the Westward Ho area from 1934 until moving to Olds in 1989. She remained in her own home until her passing.

Mother truly represented the pioneer woman, as in her earlier years she sewed all the childrenís garments (many by the light of the kerosene lamp), even shoes from used clothing given to her by family and friends. Many hand made quilts kept them warm at night. Every fall she would preserve hundreds of jars from her large garden. Pearl was a member of the Westward Ho Womenís Institute for 35 years where she won first place ribbons for her needle work and crocheting, which she was still able to do (without glasses) until she passed away. She was an avid reader with a brilliant mind and followed all world affairs. Her general knowledge was outstanding! Loving game shows, she had the answers ahead of everyone else.

Grandma Pearl (as she was affectionately called) was especially delighted in each new grandchild and great grandchild and as they grew, she kept a keen interest in all their activities.

She is survived by two sons, Jay (Doris) Neufeld of Bowden, Kiffer (Beverly) Neufeld of Thorsby; five daughters, Yvonne (Gordon) Howarth of Red Deer, Elizabeth (Betty) Zawada and friend Wayne Begon of Wanham, Esther (Harvey) Trace of New Norway, Joan (Bill) Markiwsky of Olds, Diane (LeRoy) Willsie of Caroline; daughter-in-law Shirley Siddon of Calgary; 33 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; one sister, Fern Carlson of Carstairs; two sisters-in-law, Inez Stauffer of Carstairs and Frances Stauffer of Calgary.

Pearl was pre-deceased by her husband Jake in 1958, one son Cecil in 1988, one daughter Leora in 1991, three grandchildren, one daughter-in-law Donna (Mrs. Jay) Neufeld and one son-in-law Archie Siddon.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the Church of the Nazarene, Olds with Pastor Al Griffin officiating. Internment to follow at the Olds Cemetery.
